Detailed description

This open wood-frame cabin was designed to be your vacation headquarters while exploring Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. The snug, tidy 16 x 20-foot cottage is located just off the Eagle Lake Road, one mile west of the park headquarters and less than four miles from downtown Bar Harbor with its shops, restaurants, schooner and whale-watching trips, and evening activities.

Acadia Getaway Cabin is not "secluded," although it is private. It is on its own short driveway, surrounded by trees in a quiet area of widely-spaced single family homes. At twilight, whippoorwills call from the quiet forest. Overhead, stars shine bright.

Accommodations include a comfy, queen-size bed in an open alcove off the living area. Amenities include a modern bathroom with shower, sun deck, television, VCR, and telephone.

Acadia Getaway Cabin is equipped with a six-cubic-foot refrigerator, microwave oven, hot plate, toaster oven, coffee maker, outdoor gas grill, dishes, and utensils. All linens and towels are provided. There are heaters for cool evenings, fans for hot days and a soothing heat lamp in the bath. A wide selection of field guides, local histories, maps, brochures, and related literature is on the cabin's bookshelf along with scenic videos of the area and historical tapes about Maine's past.

Staying at Acadia Getaway Cabin makes great economic sense. Motel rooms, even without cooking facilities, cost much more per day. And few offer greater privacy or accommodations that evoke the rugged spirit of Maine's proud history and rustic traditions.
